DENVER (CBS4) – An annual list that ranks Colorado’s public schools was released on Thursday and some metro area schools are ranking high in the lists from Colorado School Grades.

The top elementary schools are all located in the metro area. They are Cherry Hills Village, Willow Creek, Aurora Quest K-8, Bear Creek and Horizons K-8.

Stargate Challenge, Montessori Peaks Charter Academy and Stapleton Classical Charter School are among the top middle schools along with Polaris at Ebert, Cottonwood Creek, Challenge School, Bradford Intermediate and Hulstrom Options.

For high schools only three metro areas schools made the list. They include Denver School of the Arts, DSST Stapleton and D’Evelyn.

“It’s basically usable by anybody who’s interested in how the schools are performing,” said Kristina Saccone, spokesperson for Colorado School Grades. “It’s intended as a tool for parents though, to be more transparent about just exactly how your school is performing.”

More charter schools are breaking into the top school levels.
