Animas and Durango high school cycling teams excel in Leadville

The second race of the Colorado High School Cycling League 2013 series in Leadville provided a solid setting for the Animas and Durango High School teams to excel.
AHS finished first out of 14 teams in the Division 1 team event with 3,924 points; DHS finished second out of 25 teams in Division 2.
DHS remains in second place in the overall Division 2 team standings after two races.
India Waller of AHS, a four-year Colorado League veteran, won the girls varsity Division 1/2 race in 1 hour, 2 minutes, 31.41 seconds.
AHS’ Camryn Sippy finished first in the Division 1/2 junior varsity girls race in 1:03:38.16 to maintain her series lead.
Katja Freeburn from DHS came in second, 12 seconds after Sippy.
Both the boys varsity and JV races were cut short because of weather, but AHS’ Keenan Desplanques finished second in the Division 1 JV boys race in 54:58.05.
Ellen Campbell of DHS took second in the sophomore girls race at 35:24.14.
Keiran Eagen of AHS maintained his freshman Division 1 boys series lead with a second-place finish at 58:29.22.
DHS’ Lucas Robbins took third in the freshman Division 2 boys race at 1:02:14.24.
Race three of the four-race series will take place Oct. 6 at Peaceful Valley Scout Ranch in Elbert.
The series will conclude Oct. 20 in Eagle.
